Mikel Arteta’s side were looking for a win in their second home match in five days after their below-par display against Crystal Palace on Monday, and came flying out of the traps.
Aubameyang had a goal disallowed for a foul before Partey hit the post — but it didn’t take long for the Ghanaian to find the net for the club for the first time, as he headed in from Smith Rowe’s corner despite a touch from former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.
Saka then should have made it 2-0 when he sidefooted straight at Martinez, and the home side did go two up when referee Craig Pawson consulted the pitch-side monitor on the stroke of half-time for a foul on Lacazette in the box by Matt Targett.
The penalty was awarded and Aubameyang converted the rebound after Martinez kept up his fearsome spot-kick reputation with another save.
Villa started the second half well and Ollie Watkins forced Aaron Ramsdale into a near-post save, but the excellent Smith Rowe — in front of watching England manager Gareth Southgate — delivered another blow to Dean Smith’s side when Tyrone Mings deflected in his sidefooter to make it 3-0.
Ramsdale stopped from Buendia and substitute Leon Bailey before substitute Ramsey set up a less-than-ideal finish for Arsenal when he curled beautifully into the top corner to reduce the deficit.
Mings, Ramsey and Bailey went close to grabbing a second and setting up a grandstand finish, but Villa fell to a deserved defeat — their third league loss in a row, while Arsenal are now unbeaten in six Premier League games.
